CM Rekha Gupta Orders Swift Action After Child’s Death in Drain Tragedy, Junior Engineer Dismissed

New Delhi, May 5, 2026: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday expressed deep grief over the tragic death of a child who fell into an open drain in the Mukundpur area of Bhalswa Dairy, describing the incident as deeply painful and a serious lapse in civic responsibility.

Taking immediate action, the Irrigation and Flood Control Department dismissed a contractual Junior Engineer from service with instant effect following directions from the Chief Minister. The government stated that accountability will be strictly enforced and no negligence leading to loss of life will be tolerated.

Rekha Gupta said the safety of citizens, especially children, remains the government’s top priority. She directed all concerned departments to urgently identify open drains, uncovered manholes, and other hazardous spots across the city and carry out immediate corrective measures to prevent further accidents.

Terming the incident unacceptable, the Chief Minister emphasized that responsibility for lapses will be fixed at every level. She warned that strict disciplinary action would follow against officials found negligent in maintaining public safety infrastructure.

Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, she said the government stands with them in this hour of grief and assured that efforts will be made to ensure such tragedies are not repeated. She added that preventing similar incidents in the future would serve as the most meaningful tribute to the deceased child.
