Bengaluru Faces Setback as MLA Ticket Row Clouds IPL 2026 Final Hosting Decision

BCCI weighs alternate venues as off field political issue creates uncertainty over Chinnaswamy Stadium final

New Delhi, May 5, 2026: The Board of Control for Cricket in India is facing a fresh complication in finalising the IPL 2026 final venue, with Bengaluru emerging as an uncertain host due to ongoing issues linked to MLA ticket allocation, according to BCCI sources.

Officials familiar with the discussions have indicated that while Bengaluru was initially the frontrunner to host the summit clash, administrative and political friction over ticket distribution has created logistical concerns that may force a change in plans.

As per convention, the home ground of the defending champions is expected to stage the final, which would typically place the responsibility on the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. However, internal discussions suggest that the situation is no longer straightforward.

The issue reportedly stems from disputes around ticket quotas for elected representatives, which has triggered wider debate over allocation practices and stadium access protocols.

BCCI insiders have suggested that if the matter is not resolved quickly, the board may shift the final to an alternative venue to avoid further complications.

At present, playoff matches are expected to be divided between Karnataka and Punjab, but the final remains the only fixture under serious uncertainty.

The Chinnaswamy Stadium, one of India’s most iconic cricket venues, has traditionally hosted high profile matches and is considered a strong candidate under normal circumstances.

However, the current disagreement has added an unexpected administrative layer to what is usually a straightforward venue confirmation process.

BCCI officials are said to be monitoring developments closely and are likely to take a final call once clarity emerges on ticketing arrangements and local coordination.

The issue has also triggered broader conversations around transparency in ticket distribution for major sporting events in India.
