The Impressive TimesNEW DELHI, 27 MAY: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has geared up for the upcoming elections to the Ward Committees of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), scheduled for June 2. On Tuesday, AAP filed nominations for both Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson posts in all 11 municipal zones — from Narela, Civil Lines, Rohini, City-SP, Karol Bagh, West, South, Shahdara South, Shahdara North, Najafgarh, and Central zones — signaling a full-frontal electoral push against the BJP’s grip on the civic body.
The AAP also nominated candidates for Standing Committee seats in the South and City-SP zones. “Our candidates are leaving no stone unturned to ensure victory,” said Leader of Opposition (LoP) in MCD House, Ankush Narang, as senior MLAs Punardeep Singh Sawhney and Aaley Mohammad Iqbal stood by in solidarity.
MCD LoP Ankush Narang announced the party’s candidates for Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson posts across all 11 municipal zones. “In the Narela Zone, Sweta Khatri has been nominated for Chairperson from Ward 1, while Neha has filed for Vice-Chairperson from Ward 3. In the Civil Lines Zone, Councillor Gagan Choudhary has filed for Chairperson from Ward 10 and Councillor Timsy Sharma for Vice-Chairperson from Ward 18. From the Rohini Zone, Councillor Amrit Jain has filed for Chairperson from Ward 25 and Councillor Mamta Gupta for Vice-Chairperson from Ward 40,” he stated.
The MCD LoP noted, “In City-SP Zone, Councillor Vikas Tank has filed for Chairperson from Ward 73 and Councillor Pooja for Vice-Chairperson from Ward 71. In Karol Bagh Zone, Councillor Puneet Rai has filed for Chairperson from Ward 91, and Councillor Kavita Chauhan for Vice-Chairperson from Ward 85. From the West Zone, Councillor Nirmala Kumari has filed for Chairperson from Ward 112 and Councillor Sahil Gangwal for Vice-Chairperson from Ward 93.”
He further added that in South Zone, Councillor Rajeev Sansanwal has filed for Chairperson from Ward 154, and Councillor Arun Navariya for Vice-Chairperson from Ward 166.
Ankush Narang further informed that in Shahdara South Zone, Councillor Dhirendra Kumar (Bunty Gautam) has filed for Chairperson from Ward 195 and Councillor Beena for Vice-Chairperson from Ward 191. In Shahdara North Zone, Councillor Priyanka Saxena has filed for Chairperson from Ward 235, and Councillor Shivani Panchal for Vice-Chairperson from Ward 223. In Najafgarh Zone, Councillor Tilotma Choudhary has filed for Chairperson from Ward 117 and Councillor Poonam Bhardwaj for Vice-Chairperson from Ward 134. From the Central Zone, Councillor Sarika Chaudhary has filed for Chairperson from Ward 142.
Additionally, Aam Aadmi Party has filed nominations for members of the Standing Committee from City-SP and South Zones. From City-SP Zone, Councillor Rafia Mahir has filed her nomination from Ward 78, and in South Zone, Councillor Pinky Tyagi has filed her nomination from Ward 159.
Ankush Narang confirmed that Tuesday marked the final day of filing nominations for the MCD Ward Committee elections. “AAP has fielded candidates for Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson posts in all 11 zones. Elections will be held on June 2, and results will be declared the same day,” he said.
