Mark Carney Elected Leader of Canada’s Ruling Liberal Party

Ottawa, Mar 10,2025:  The ruling Liberal Party of Canada announced  that former Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney has been elected as its new leader.

Carney will succeed Justin Trudeau as prime minister and lead the formation of a new government.

After maintaining a strong lead throughout the two-month leadership race, Carney secured 131,674 votes, accounting for 85.9 percent of party support.

In a spirited address to party members from across Canada, Carney emphasized that evolving global challenges require fresh ideas and innovative leadership.

“Canadians understand that new threats require a new vision and a bold approach,” Carney stated. “Our government will implement a plan to strengthen the economy, forge new trade partnerships with dependable allies, and enhance border security.”

He reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the planned retaliatory tariffs against the United States, asserting that his strategy aims to exert maximum pressure on the U.S. while safeguarding Canada’s economic interests.

Carney’s election marks a pivotal shift in Canadian politics as he prepares to take charge of the nation’s leadership. His extensive experience in finance and economic policy is expected to shape his governance approach, focusing on economic resilience, international cooperation, and national security.
