Delhi-NCR Shaken by 4.0 Magnitude Earthquake

New Delhi, Feb 17, 2025: The National Capital Region (NCR) experienced strong tremors as a 4.0 magnitude earthquake jolted the area early Monday morning.

The epicenter was identified near Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education in south Delhi’s Dhaula Kuan. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the quake struck at a depth of five kilometers at 5:36 am.

Residents reported hearing a loud sound as the earthquake hit, prompting people living in high-rise buildings across Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad to rush out of their homes in panic.

Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Delhi residents to remain “calm” and assured that authorities are closely monitoring the situation.

“Tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby areas. I urge everyone to stay calm, follow safety precautions, and remain alert for possible aftershocks. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation,” PM Modi posted on X.

The sudden tremor served as a reminder of the region’s seismic activity, prompting renewed discussions about earthquake preparedness and safety measures.
