Arvind Kejriwal slams Parvesh Verma for flouting MCC by openly distributing bedsheets to voters; questions Election Commission’s silence

NEW DELHI, January10, 2025: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has raised serious concerns about the inaction of the Election Commission against BJP leader Parvesh Verma for openly violating the Model Code of Conduct in the New Delhi Assembly constituency. The party exposed Parvesh Verma for distributing bedsheets, glasses, and cash to buy votes while the Election Commission remains a silent spectator.

AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, via the social media platform X, stated, “Just yesterday (Thursday), we had filed a complaint with the Election Commission about blatant distribution of cash, job registrations, and glasses. And now, they’ve started distributing bedsheets in broad daylight. Will the Election Commission dare to act, or is it helpless before the BJP?”

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi also strongly criticized the BJP for its actions. “Parvesh Verma is openly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). When he distributed spectacles under the pretext of a health camp, he did so openly and tweeted about it. When he distributed cash for votes at his home, he didn’t hide it. Instead, he did it brazenly. This makes it clear that Parvesh Verma knows he has nothing else to offer—no work, vision, or narrative for Delhi. That’s why he is trying to garner votes by violating the MCC, distributing cash, spectacles, clothes, and salwar kameez,” she said.

She added, “I hope the Election Commission takes cognizance of this. We met with the Election Commission yesterday, and they assured us of strict action against any violation of the MCC.”

Talking about Electoral Manipulation in the New Delhi constituency, the Chief Minister stated, “between December 15 and January 8, approximately 13,000 voter addition applications were received, and 5,500 voter deletion applications were filed. The constituency has a total of 100,000 voters. This means that in just three weeks, there has been an attempt to increase the voter list by 13% and decrease it by 5.5%.”

She added, “It’s clear that it is impossible for 15,000 people to move to a small area of New Delhi from different parts of Delhi and the country within three weeks. It is equally impossible for 5,500 people to die or relocate in such a short span. This indicates that a large-scale fraud is taking place. We have met with the Election Commission regarding this, and they assured us that no fraudulent votes will be added, nor will any legitimate votes be deleted unfairly.”
