Shafali Verma Smashes Record-Breaking Double Century as India Dominates Against South Africa

Historic Day for Indian Women's Cricket: Verma's Brilliance Sets New Milestones

Chennai ,28 June,2024: Shafali Verma’s extraordinary batting prowess propelled India Women to a historic total of 525/4 on the opening day of their one-off Test against South Africa Women at MA Chidambaram Stadium. Verma’s stunning 205 runs led India to surpass the previous highest single-day total in Women’s Test cricket, firmly establishing her dominance on Friday.

Verma’s aggressive innings, characterized by eight sixes and 23 fours, shattered records as she reached her century in just 194 balls. Partnering with Smriti Mandhana, who contributed a stylish 149, the duo set a new benchmark with their record-breaking opening partnership of 292 runs.

Despite efforts from South African bowlers, particularly Delmi Tucker who claimed two wickets, India’s resilient batting lineup proved challenging on a pitch offering little assistance. The day belonged to Verma, whose masterclass ensured India’s commanding position by stumps.
