Delhi Launches ‘Safe School Campaign’ to Boost Fire Safety Awareness Across Capital

Home Minister Ashish Sood calls for collective responsibility and citizen participation

New Delhi, April 15, 2026: The Delhi Government has initiated a major fire safety awareness drive with the launch of the ‘Safe School Campaign’, aimed at strengthening safety standards in schools and hospitals across the national capital.

The campaign was virtually launched by Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood as part of the observance of Fire Service Week from April 14 to 20. The initiative is being conducted jointly by the Education Department and the Delhi Fire Service to promote awareness and preparedness against fire related incidents.

Highlighting the objective of the campaign, the minister said it focuses on building a culture of safety under the vision of safe schools, safe hospitals and an accident free society. He stressed that increasing public awareness and participation is essential to prevent fire hazards and ensure quick response during emergencies.

Under the Safe School Campaign, authorities will intensify monitoring and enforcement of fire safety norms in both government and private educational institutions. The move is aimed at ensuring that all schools are equipped with proper safety infrastructure and preparedness mechanisms.

During the address, the minister paid tribute to firefighters who lost their lives in the historic 1944 Mumbai fire incident, noting the significance of Fire Service Week in honouring their sacrifice and raising awareness about fire safety.

Emphasising the importance of preparedness, he encouraged students and staff to actively participate in safety drills and training sessions. He noted that awareness and timely action can play a crucial role in saving lives during emergencies.

The minister also shared that the Delhi Fire Service has handled thousands of emergency calls in the past year and continues to upgrade its capabilities through improved technology and training programmes.

He further informed that extensive outreach efforts have already been undertaken, with numerous awareness camps conducted to educate citizens on fire prevention and emergency response practices.

Calling for wider public involvement, the minister urged people to spread awareness within their communities and take responsibility for maintaining safety standards. He appealed to citizens to adopt basic precautions and remain alert in order to prevent fire related mishaps.

Reinforcing the message of collective responsibility, he said that ensuring safety is not just the duty of authorities but requires active participation from every individual.

The campaign concludes with a call to action for students, parents and institutions to commit towards building a safer environment, with the Delhi Government reiterating its focus on creating a more aware and prepared society.
