Mumbai, April 22, 2026: Veteran filmmaker David Dhawan has revealed that he once planned to make a film with superstar Shah Rukh Khan, but the project never materialised despite early discussions.
Speaking about the long standing idea, Dhawan said that both had considered working together on a commercial entertainer, but the collaboration could not move forward due to changing schedules and creative circumstances.
He mentioned that while discussions did take place at one point, the timing did not work out for either side, eventually leading to the project being shelved.
Dhawan added that in the film industry, many promising ideas often remain incomplete because of logistical challenges, even when there is mutual interest between actors and directors.
The filmmaker also reflected on his extensive career of successful comedies and said that every collaboration depends heavily on timing and the availability of the right script.
Shah Rukh Khan, one of India’s most celebrated actors, has worked with several top directors across genres, but has never teamed up with David Dhawan on a full length film.
Dhawan, known for his comedy hits featuring actors like Govinda, Salman Khan and others, said he still respects Khan’s craft and popularity and would be open to collaborating if the right script emerges.
The revelation has sparked curiosity among fans who often wonder how a David Dhawan style entertainer with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead might have looked on screen.
Over the years, both personalities have contributed significantly to Hindi cinema, albeit in different styles and creative spaces.
Dhawan’s comments highlight how many potential Bollywood collaborations remain unrealised due to timing, despite initial enthusiasm from both sides.
