AICTE National Internship Portal Expands to 4.7 Crore Registrations, Boosts Industry-Academia Linkages in India

New Delhi, April 26, 2026: The National Internship Portal under AICTE, Ministry of Education, has expanded into a large scale platform connecting students with industry based learning opportunities across sectors in India under the national skilling mission framework.

In the last four and a half years, the initiative has recorded 4.7 Crore student registrations, 2.9 Crore verified learners, and 79,57,193 internship opportunities, alongside 32,78,900 completed internships and participation from 81,483 companies across the country with a nationwide digital coordination system.

Scale of Internship Participation Across Institutions

More than 81,483 registered companies and 12,077 colleges have joined the National Internship Portal through formal memoranda of understanding, covering over 200 internship domains across technical, professional and emerging sectors including engineering, management and digital technologies. These collaborations have enabled structured exposure for students across institutions and created wider access to work based learning opportunities supporting employability across sectors at national scale.

Student participation reflects large scale engagement, with 4.7 Crore registrations and 2.9 Crore verified users participating in internship mapping across states and institutions. The system has also recorded 32,78,900 completed internships, indicating sustained engagement between learners and organisations over time across diverse sectors and improving access in rural and semi urban areas.

Industry Integration and Emerging Skill Trends

Industry participation includes organisations such as Microsoft, Google, IBM, Cisco, ServiceNow and Salesforce alongside government institutions including C-DAC, NHAI, Indian Army and NCDC. This integration has strengthened linkages between academia and industry, enabling structured exposure for students in real work environments across sectors supporting future workforce readiness goals.

Students are increasingly opting for emerging domains such as AI/ML, cloud computing, app development, cybersecurity and supply chain management across institutions. These trends indicate a shift towards skill based learning aligned with digital transformation and evolving workforce requirements in India in line with industry demand shifts and technological change.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Education, AICTE, and NETF have also played a pivotal role in driving coordinated leadership across institutions  such as Cabinet minister od educatiin shri Dharmendra Pradhan, MoE secretary Vineet Joshi, Govind Jaiswal, Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe, Yogesh Singh, Shyama Rath and Dr. Buddha Chandrasekhar  collectively ensured policy-level coordination and implementation support across departments, enabling the National Internship Portal to function as a cohesive national initiative rather than a fragmented effort.

This ecosystem brings together ministries, public institutions, private companies and academic organisations to expand internship access across India. Stakeholders have been urged to onboard more opportunities including MSMEs and SMEs to strengthen employability outcomes nationwide for long term skill development and workforce readiness. Further data continues to be updated through AICTE dashboards and official portal reporting systems across participating institutions nationwide.
