Manchester United midfielder Martínez out for the rest of the campaign.

Manchester, Feb 7 ,2025: Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez has sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his knee, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.

The 27-year-old was stretchered off late in Sunday’s home defeat against Crystal Palace, an incident United manager Ruben Amorim initially described as a “serious situation,” according to a BBC report.

“The injury is still being assessed to determine the best course of treatment and the estimated recovery period,” Manchester United stated on Thursday.

“Everyone at Manchester United sends Lisandro Martínez strength for a smooth recovery, and we will be by his side throughout the process.”

Martínez’s absence presents a challenge for Amorim as he seeks to turn around the fortunes of the Old Trafford outfit.

United currently sit 13th in the Premier League following their loss to Palace, marking their seventh defeat in 13 home matches this season.

“Licha [Martínez] is in a tough spot,” said Amorim ahead of his team’s FA Cup fourth-round clash against Leicester City on Friday.

“He will be sidelined for a significant period. While we don’t yet know the full extent of the injury, it is one that will require considerable time to heal.”

The setback coincides with ongoing concerns about left-back Luke Shaw’s fitness. Shaw has not started a game for United in nearly a year.

“Luke has a minor issue in a different area than his previous injury, so we are exercising caution with him,” Amorim added.
