Vipul Amrutlal Shah Wins 16-Year Legal Battle Over London Dreams Cheque Bounce Case

Court convicts film producers, orders payment within 90 days or jail term

Mumbai: Filmmaker Vipul Amrutlal Shah has emerged victorious in a prolonged legal battle spanning 16 years, with a Mumbai court delivering its verdict in a cheque dishonour case linked to the 2009 film London Dreams.

The Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Andheri, in its order dated April 15, 2026, found the film’s producers, PJ Singh and Gita Bhalla Singh, guilty under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. The court has directed them to clear outstanding dues within 90 days, failing which they could face a jail term of up to nine months.

The case dates back to 2009, when Shah, through his company Sunshine Pictures Private Limited, extended financial support to the producers to help complete the film. However, the repayment cheque issued to him was dishonoured upon presentation, leading to legal proceedings that stretched over more than a decade.

According to Shah’s legal team, the judgment marks the end of a long and challenging process. They noted that while the case took years to conclude, the ruling reinforces accountability in financial dealings within the film industry.

London Dreams starred Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn in lead roles and was mounted on a large scale despite financial hurdles during production. Reports at the time had indicated that key members of the team took pay cuts to keep the project on track amid economic challenges.

The verdict is being seen as a significant development in industry-related financial disputes, highlighting the legal consequences of cheque dishonour and delayed repayments.
