Tanishk Bagchi Denies Copying Saiyaara Title Track: “Didn’t Steal Anything”

Music composer Tanishk Bagchi has responded to accusations that the title track of Saiyaara was copied from One Direction’s Night Changes and Jubin Nautiyal’s Humnava Mere. The romantic drama, directed by Mohit Suri, has been dominating global charts, but the song’s popularity has also brought controversy.

Speaking to Bagchi defended his work. “Whatever I do, people will have something to say because they don’t have anything better to do. They keep looking for chances to put me down,” he said. Addressing the musical similarities, he explained, “If you look at the melody, the chords are the same. The A minor scale has just about 3–4 chords, but every melody has a different soul. That doesn’t mean anything was stolen.”

He added, “Even if similarities exist, we didn’t copy. We didn’t pick something from there and paste it here. We worked on the emotion of the song—and that connected. That’s the magic of Saiyaara.”

Saiyaara, starring debutant Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has grossed ₹256 crore in just 11 days. Its soundtrack, particularly the title song, has reached the #4 spot on Spotify’s Global Top 50, reinforcing its worldwide success despite the criticism.

Tanishk Bagchi, known for both original compositions and chart-topping remixes, is no stranger to debate. However, he remains confident in the originality and emotional honesty of his latest work.
