EKTA NAGAR:Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid floral tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, on the occasion of his 151st birth anniversary.
Marking National Unity Day, observed every year on October 31, Modi recalled Patel’s pivotal role in uniting princely states after Independence and building a strong and integrated India.
In his message, the Prime Minister described Patel as the pioneer of ‘Akhand Bharat’ and said his dedication and sacrifices continue to inspire efforts towards building a developed and self-reliant India.
Born on October 31, 1875, in Nadiad, Gujarat, Patel became India’s first Home Minister after Independence and played a key role in integrating more than 560 princely states into the Indian Union. He passed away on December 15, 1950.
The government has observed October 31 as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas or National Unity Day since 2014 to reaffirm the country’s commitment to national unity, integrity and security.
