Bihar CM Samrat Choudhary Unveils Women-Focused Schemes, Police Didi Initiative for Safety

Patna, August 26, 2026; Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday announced a series of measures focused on improving women’s safety, mobility and economic independence, including the rollout of the ‘Police Didi’ campaign across educational institutions.

Under the new initiative, women police officers and personnel will be assigned to schools, colleges and other educational campuses to strengthen security arrangements and provide a dedicated support system for girls and women.

The state government is also equipping women police personnel for field operations. Around 2,700 scooties and over 2,000 motorcycles are being made available to improve their mobility and enable quicker response to safety-related concerns.

Choudhary said Bihar currently has nearly 40,000 women serving in its police force. He also highlighted improvements in the state’s emergency response mechanism, stating that the response time for Dial 112 has been brought down to less than 10 minutes. The government is working to reduce the response time further to between five and seven minutes.

Speaking about women’s economic empowerment, the Chief Minister highlighted the scale of the JEEViKA programme in Bihar. He said around 1.81 crore women are linked with the initiative, while more than 70 lakh JEEViKA Didis are actively engaged in its activities.

According to Choudhary, 43 lakh women in the state have already achieved the status of ‘Lakhpati Didi’. The government has set a further target of enabling one lakh additional women to reach this level of financial independence during the next two years.

The Chief Minister said greater economic independence among women benefits not only individual households but also strengthens the wider state economy. He identified women’s safety, education and self-reliance as key elements of Bihar’s development agenda.

Choudhary also linked the state’s women-centric initiatives with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047, saying stronger participation by women would contribute significantly to achieving that goal.

During his remarks, the Chief Minister also pointed to improvements in Bihar’s road connectivity and infrastructure. He recalled Sudha Murty’s recent visit to the state and said she had appreciated the condition of roads and travel connectivity.

Separately, Choudhary had announced the ‘Student Support Camp’ initiative on Tuesday to provide students with a structured mechanism for raising complaints and suggestions. The monthly camps will be held on the fourth Tuesday at educational institutions, while students can also submit grievances through the Student Support Portal and Helpline 1100 and monitor their progress.

The latest initiatives reflect the Bihar government’s stated focus on strengthening women’s security, expanding opportunities for financial independence and creating more direct channels for citizens and students to communicate their concerns to the administration.
