423 contract workers receive pending wages after labour dispute settlement at Ordnance Factory Kanpur

Kanpur, August 18, 2026; A wage dispute involving 423 contract workers at Ordnance Factory, Kanpur, has been settled following intervention by the Regional Labour Commissioner (Central), Kanpur, bringing relief to employees awaiting payment of their dues.

The workers were engaged through Immense Manpower Pvt. Ltd. at the establishment operated by Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWEIL). During the conciliation process, labour authorities facilitated discussions between the concerned parties to address the delay in payment of wages.

Following the intervention, the contractor paid nearly Rs 50 lakh to the 423 workers on August 13 towards their pending wages for June and July 2026. The release of the contractor’s outstanding bill for May by the principal employer also helped clear the remaining payment-related hurdles.

The settlement also prevented a proposed strike and demonstration by a section of workers, ensuring that operations at the Kanpur establishment continued without disruption. The development has helped ease tensions and strengthen industrial relations between the workforce, contractor and management.

Labour authorities also highlighted the need for the management and contractor to fulfil their legal responsibilities towards workers, including timely payment of wages, proper service conditions and compliance with applicable labour regulations.

Officials stressed that regular communication and prompt resolution of workers’ grievances are essential for maintaining a stable workplace. The management, during the proceedings, assured authorities of continued attention to employee welfare and compliance with statutory requirements.

The settlement is being viewed as an example of how timely government intervention and structured dialogue can resolve labour disputes while safeguarding workers’ interests and maintaining industrial peace.
