Delhi sports infrastructure development received a significant boost as Delhi Education and Sports Minister Ashish Sood held discussions with champion athletes Anahat Singh and Lovlina Borgohain to improve sports facilities, strengthen training systems and encourage young talent in the national capital.

During the interaction, the Minister lauded the achievements of both sportspersons and discussed ways to promote excellence in different sporting disciplines through improved infrastructure, training facilities, and grassroots-level programmes.

Focus on Promoting Squash Among Delhi’s Youth

Meeting squash sensation Anahat Singh, who recently achieved a major milestone by winning the World Junior Girls Squash Championship title, Ashish Sood discussed measures to increase participation in the sport across Delhi.

The Minister highlighted the need to identify young talent at an early stage and provide aspiring players with access to quality coaching and modern facilities. He assured that the Delhi government would extend support towards strengthening squash programmes and encouraging more youngsters to take up the sport.

Plans to Enhance Boxing Training Facilities

The Minister also interacted with Olympic medallist and world champion boxer Lovlina Borgohain, discussing the development of boxing infrastructure and opportunities for budding athletes in Delhi.

Lovlina shared her vision of nurturing upcoming boxers and emphasised the importance of advanced training centres and professional support systems. Responding to her suggestions, Ashish Sood said the government would work in consultation with experienced athletes and experts to upgrade sports facilities in the city.

The discussions are part of Delhi’s broader efforts to build a stronger sporting environment, encourage young athletes, and help them compete successfully at national and international platforms.

The Delhi sports infrastructure development initiative aims to create a stronger ecosystem for athletes by focusing on advanced training centres, grassroots-level programmes and better access to professional coaching.
