Chandigarh, August 4, 2026; Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, IAS, has extended his support to renowned lifestyle and preventive medicine expert Dr. Bala’s nationwide campaign on obesity prevention, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for collective action against the growing obesity epidemic across India.
Expressing concern over the rising burden of obesity, Rastogi described it as a progressive, chronic and complex disease that affects people of all age groups and genders. He noted that obesity is closely linked to more than 250 diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, stroke and several other non-communicable diseases, making prevention a public health priority.
The Chief Secretary also highlighted the alarming rise in childhood obesity, stating that what was once considered a looming risk has now emerged as a serious public health crisis in the country. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts involving multiple government departments, effective policy implementation at the grassroots level and continuous monitoring to address the challenge.
During the discussion, emphasis was laid on preventive strategies that promote healthier lifestyles, encourage public awareness and strengthen institutional collaboration to curb the growing prevalence of obesity.
Appealing to citizens to actively participate in the campaign, Anurag Rastogi urged every Indian to “Say No to Obesity” by adopting a disciplined lifestyle that includes regular physical activity, balanced eating habits and preventive healthcare practices.
He said that a healthier population contributes significantly to nation-building by creating a productive and economically resilient workforce, reducing the healthcare burden, improving educational outcomes and strengthening the country’s overall economic growth.
