NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP and Uttar Pradesh Prabhari Sanjay Singh on Thursday submitted documents related to the multi-crore Shri Ram Mandir land purchase scam to the SIT (Special Investigation Team) after being called to its Lucknow office by SIT Chairman Vijay Vishwas Pant. Presenting evidence of irregularities in land transactions linked to the trust, the senior AAP leader handed over 11 sets of documents, including records concerning Shri Ram Mandir Trust General Secretary Champat Rai and several other prominent names connected to the land deals.
Meanwhile, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal took to ‘X’ and shared, “AAP MP Sanjay Singh has appeared before the SIT investigating irregularities in offerings at Shri Ram Mandir and submitted evidence related to the land scam.”
Sharing information on ‘X’ about submitting documents related to the land purchase scam to the SIT, AAP MP and Uttar Pradesh Prabhari Sanjay Singh wrote, “The trust committed a scam worth crores of rupees in the name of land purchases. I have submitted all the documents to the SIT. What action will be taken next, only Bhagwan Shri Ram knows?”
Speaking to the media, Sanjay Singh said, “There is widespread anger and outrage among people across the country over the scam in Bhagwan Shri Ram’s Mandir. The theft of offerings and donations has hurt the faith of crores of Hindus. An SIT has been constituted in Uttar Pradesh to investigate the entire matter, headed by Lucknow Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant. The SIT Chairman had called me and given me an appointment at 11 a.m. I met him and handed over all the documents.”
The senior AAP leader explained that he had a total of 13 documents, but since two matters were interconnected, he submitted 11 sets of documents to the SIT Chairman and another member. He said, “The information contained in these documents is shocking. Land received through donation was purchased for ₹1 crore, land worth ₹9 crore was bought for ₹55.47 crore, and land worth ₹3 crore was purchased for ₹24 crore. The land bought for ₹24 crore was ‘nazul’ land, which can neither be bought nor sold. How did the trust spend ₹24 crore of donation money to purchase such land?”
The AAP MP further stated, “I have also submitted several documents related to Deep Narayan, the nephew of the then ‘ED Party’ mayor, showing how he sold land to Champat Rai and caused losses to the trust. I also submitted the earlier disclosure from 2021 in which Sultan Ansari and Ravi Mohan Tiwari purchased land from Kusum Pathak and Harish Pathak for ₹2 crore and sold it to the trust just five minutes later for ₹18.5 crore.”
Detailing the documents, Sanjay Singh said, “On 18 March 2021, the trust purchased land worth ₹4.97 crore from Kusum Pathak and Harish Pathak for ₹8 crore. Trust member Anil Kumar Mishra and then ED Party mayor Rishikesh Upadhyay were witnesses. The second and third documents relate to the same parcel of land that Sultan Ansari and Ravi Mohan Tiwari bought for ₹2 crore and sold to the trust five minutes later for ₹18.5 crore. In both transactions, Rishikesh Upadhyay and Anil Mishra were witnesses.”
He added, “According to the fourth document, land valued at ₹41.6 lakh was sold for ₹2 crore on 20 February. As per the fifth and fifth-A documents, on 21 February the nephew of then ED Party mayor Rishikesh Upadhyay purchased land from Devendra Prasad Acharya for ₹20 lakh and sold the same land to Champat Rai seven months later for ₹2.5 crore.”
Referring to the next set of records, Sanjay Singh continued, “Documents six and six-A show that on 14 May 2020, Rishikesh Upadhyay’s nephew Deep Narayan received land as a donation and later sold it to Champat Rai for ₹1 crore. According to the seventh document, on 20 May 2021, Champat Rai purchased land worth ₹92.5 lakh from Brijmohan Das for ₹5.6 crore.”
“The eighth document shows that there is no information about how much a plot bought by Champat Rai for ₹51.8 lakh was later sold for. The ninth document concerns land under Gata numbers 153 and 82 worth ₹45.24 lakh, and the sale details are missing. The related records have disappeared and require investigation,” he added.
He asserted, “The tenth document shows that on 2 April 2024, land under Gata number 247 worth ₹2.92 crore was sold to the trust for ₹24 crore. I have shown the original papers to the media. The SDM of Ayodhya has certified that this is nazul land. Champat Rai purchasing nazul land for ₹24 crore amounts to outright theft of donations and a raid on the trust’s funds.”
The AAP UP Prabhari further said, “The final document is dated 16 November 2023, when land worth ₹9 crore was purchased by the trust for ₹55.47 crore. The Uttar Pradesh government acquired more useful land in the same area from farmers at just ₹4.4 lakh per biswa, while Champat Rai purchased land from Alok Bansal at ₹47 lakh per biswa.”
He noted, “For religious purposes, people usually donate land or provide it at concessional rates. Here, the trust purchased land at prices running into thousands of times its value. This is a massive case of corruption and a mega scam. I have submitted all the evidence to SIT chairman Vijay Vishwas Pant, who has assured me that action will be taken.”
Concluding, Sanjay Singh said, “I want every detail of this matter to be placed before the public. The media should take cameras to Shri Ram Mandir and the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra area and see where these lands are located. Check whether they are near hotels or elsewhere. A walk of just two to four kilometres with a camera will reveal the truth on its own.”
