New Delhi- The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board has approved the relocation of residents from slum clusters located near Race Course Road in central Delhi, initiating a rehabilitation plan that includes housing allocation in northwest Delhi.
Officials said the move will shift residents from Bhai Ram Camp, Masjid Camp, and DID Camp to flats in Savda Ghevra. A total of 717 Economically Weaker Section (EWS) flats have been earmarked for the relocation under the board’s rehabilitation policy.
To support the plan, DUSIB has sought approximately ₹84.9 crore from the central government. Authorities added that a beneficiary contribution of ₹1.12 lakh per household will also be deposited as part of the rehabilitation process.
The relocation follows notices issued earlier this year by the Land and Development Office under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, which stated that the land occupied by the settlements belongs to the government.
Residents had approached the Delhi High Court challenging the eviction notices. During proceedings in March, the Centre informed the court that affected families would be provided alternative accommodation before relocation.
Officials said surveys were conducted jointly by the L&DO and the Delhi Development Authority to identify eligible beneficiaries. Based on these findings, allotments in Savda Ghevra were finalised.
According to sources, the proposal includes both eligible and certain ineligible residents under the rehabilitation framework. Authorities also indicated that additional flats have been reserved to meet future resettlement requirements.
The move is part of ongoing efforts to regulate land use in central Delhi while ensuring housing arrangements for displaced families.
