In the closing phase of campaigning for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, C. Joseph Vijay, founder of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), stepped up his political rhetoric with a direct attack on the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). Addressing a gathering in Chennai, Vijay accused the state government of failing to deliver on its promises and placing financial strain on citizens.
The actor-turned-politician alleged that the DMK administration had increased various taxes, including those related to property and water, thereby burdening ordinary people. He also raised concerns over the state’s growing debt, claiming it reflected poor financial management over the past five years.
Taking his criticism further, Vijay suggested that a defeat for the DMK in the April 23 polls would expose what he described as the party’s “real stance.” He claimed that after losing power, the DMK would align itself with national leaders such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
According to Vijay, such a development would reveal contradictions in the DMK’s current political positioning.
In a notable campaign strategy, Vijay reached out to younger members of households, encouraging them to actively remind and motivate elders to participate in voting. He emphasized the importance of family-level engagement in strengthening democratic participation and backing TVK’s vision for governance.
With polling day approaching, political parties in Tamil Nadu are making their final efforts to sway voters. Vijay’s remarks signal an aggressive push by TVK to position itself as a strong alternative, while intensifying the narrative battle against the ruling establishment.
