Chandigarh: An FIR has been registered against Madhu Kishwar and others in Chandigarh following allegations related to the circulation of misleading and allegedly forged material on social media.
Police said the case was initiated after a local resident filed a complaint claiming certain posts and video clips were being shared online with false identification and objectionable content, raising concerns over reputational harm and public disturbance.
According to officials, the case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita as well as the IT Act, while investigators examine the origin, circulation and intent behind the disputed content.
During preliminary inquiry, statements were reportedly recorded from individuals said to be linked to the original video at the centre of the complaint. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
Kishwar later said on social media that police visited her residence late at night to serve notice regarding the FIR. She stated she objected to the timing and asked officials to return in the morning, citing legal safeguards.
Police have not announced further action so far as the probe continues.
