New Delhi, March 16: The government has made electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) verification compulsory for all domestic Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) consumers in an effort to ensure transparency in distribution and address concerns over supply shortages.
Officials said the step is intended to verify the identity of consumers and eliminate duplicate or inactive connections from the system. The initiative is expected to help authorities ensure that subsidised cooking gas reaches genuine households.
Under the new requirement, LPG users will need to complete their e-KYC verification through authorised distributors or digital platforms. Consumers may be asked to provide identity details linked with documents such as Unique Identification Authority of India–issued Aadhaar to complete the process.
Authorities believe the move will strengthen monitoring of LPG distribution networks and reduce the possibility of diversion of domestic cylinders for commercial use.
Oil marketing companies have also urged consumers to complete the verification process within the prescribed timeframe to avoid disruption in cylinder supply.
Officials added that the e-KYC exercise is part of broader efforts to improve efficiency in the delivery of essential fuel supplies and ensure fair distribution among households.
