UP Announces 3-Day Holi Break, Salaries to Be Credited in Advance

CM Yogi Adityanath Directs Early Wage Release for All Categories of State Staff

Lucknow | February 28, 2026: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved a three-day holiday for Holi from March 2 to March 4 for employees of all state government departments. The decision ensures that offices under the state administration will remain closed during the festival period.

Alongside the holiday announcement, the Chief Minister directed that salaries be credited before the festivities begin. The order applies not only to permanent government staff but also to contractual employees, outsourced workers, and sanitation personnel. Officials said the move aims to prevent financial strain during the celebrations.

According to the 2026 holiday schedule, Holika Dahan will be observed on March 2, while Holi falls on March 4. March 3 has also been declared a public holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.

Authorities clarified that all state offices will function as usual on February 28, despite it being a Saturday. The government has warned that any delay in disbursing salaries or wages will invite strict action.

The announcement came shortly after the Chief Minister returned from an official visit to Singapore and Japan, during which the state reportedly secured major investment commitments aimed at boosting industrial growth.
