Varkala, October 23, 2025 – President of India, Droupadi Murmu, inaugurated the observance of the Mahasamadhi Centenary of Sree Narayana Guru at the historic Sivagiri Mutt in Varkala, Kerala, on Thursday.
Addressing the gathering, the President described Sree Narayana Guru as one of India’s greatest spiritual leaders and social reformers whose life and teachings transformed the nation’s social and spiritual landscape. She said the Guru’s philosophy of equality, unity, and love for humanity continues to inspire generations.
Highlighting his timeless message, the President recalled Sree Narayana Guru’s belief in the oneness of all existence and his famous proclamation — “One Caste, One Religion, One God for Mankind.” She said his teachings transcended barriers of caste, creed, and religion, emphasizing that true liberation stems from knowledge, compassion, and self-purification rather than blind faith.
President Murmu also lauded the Guru’s contributions to education and social upliftment, noting that the temples, schools, and institutions he founded became beacons of literacy, moral values, and self-reliance for marginalized communities. His works in Malayalam, Sanskrit, and Tamil, she said, beautifully combined deep spiritual wisdom with simplicity.
“In a world increasingly divided by conflict, Sree Narayana Guru’s call for unity, equality, and mutual respect holds timeless relevance,” the President said, adding that his message reminds humanity that “we all share the same divine essence.”
The event marked a moment of reflection and reverence for the Guru’s enduring vision of universal brotherhood and harmony.
