New Delhi, September 28, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation in the 126th episode of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, paying heartfelt tributes to freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh and legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar on their birth anniversaries.

Honours to Icons

Remembering Bhagat Singh, the Prime Minister called him “an inspiration for every Indian, especially the youth,” lauding his fearlessness and indomitable courage. He also recalled his close bond with Lata Mangeshkar, noting her deep connection to Indian culture and her lifelong dedication to patriotic music.

Saluting Naval Trailblazers

Modi spotlighted the extraordinary achievement of Lieutenant Commanders Dilna and Roopa of the Indian Navy, who successfully completed an eight-month global circumnavigation in a sailboat. The duo sailed nearly 47,500 km over 238 days, braving storms, sub-zero temperatures, and waves “higher than a three-storey building.”
“They have demonstrated what courage and a steely resolve are,” the Prime Minister said, hailing their feat as a beacon of inspiration for India’s daughters.

Cultural Heritage and Festivals

The PM announced the government’s initiative to include Chhath Mahaparva in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list, citing it as a festival of “global grandeur and divinity.” He encouraged citizens to celebrate upcoming festivals like Vijayadashami, Diwali, and Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti with renewed pride in India’s traditions.

Highlighting artisans and entrepreneurs blending tradition with innovation, Modi mentioned success stories from Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, and Bihar, such as Yaazh Naturals’ eco-friendly yoga mats and Sankalp Creations’ Mithila paintings.

Call for Swadeshi and Cleanliness

Reiterating the Vocal for Local mantra, the Prime Minister urged citizens to buy Khadi and locally made products during the festive season. He linked economic self-reliance with cultural pride, adding, “When we buy Swadeshi goods, we bring home hope to a family and honor the hard work of an artisan.”

He also appealed for nationwide cleanliness drives beyond household cleaning: “Cleanliness should become our responsibility everywhere – in the streets, neighborhoods, markets, and villages.”

Tributes and Reflections

The PM paid homage to late Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg and renowned Kannada writer S. L. Bhyrappa, celebrating their lasting contributions to India’s cultural and literary heritage.

Concluding his address, Modi wished the nation for the festive season ahead, emphasizing that true celebration lies in self-reliance and collective responsibility.
