5 New FIRs Filed Against Fraudulent Travel Agents in Punjab

Punjab : In Punjab, five additional FIRs have been registered against unscrupulous travel agents accused of deceiving young individuals with false promises of facilitating illegal entry into the United States, which ultimately led to their deportation. With these recent cases, the total number of FIRs filed has risen to 15, and three arrests have been made so far in connection with the scam.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Punjab Police, headed by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Praveen Sinha, is leading the probe into these fraudulent travel agents. The agents allegedly charged victims substantial sums, falsely guaranteeing safe and legal immigration routes. Instead, these individuals were subjected to inhumane conditions during their journeys, culminating in deportation.

The SIT is collaborating with cybercrime units, financial authorities, and central agencies to dismantle the human trafficking network involved. Investigators are closely scrutinizing digital footprints, financial transactions, and communication records to trace other individuals connected to the racket. The probe has led to multiple arrests and the freezing of bank accounts linked to the accused, which were allegedly used to receive payments from victims.

ADGP Praveen Sinha emphasized that the police are committed to taking stringent action against those exploiting vulnerable youth under the guise of overseas opportunities. He stated that the SIT’s primary objective is to identify and apprehend the masterminds behind the trafficking network while ensuring that victims receive justice. The team is also exploring international cooperation to track down agents operating from abroad.

Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious travel agents and advised prospective immigrants to verify the credentials of immigration services to avoid falling victim to such scams. The Punjab government has announced plans to increase awareness campaigns to educate people about the risks of illegal immigration and the importance of using legal channels for overseas travel.

Meanwhile, efforts are underway to assist the victims who have returned after facing hardships abroad. Authorities are coordinating with rehabilitation services to provide counseling and support to those affected. The government is also considering measures to strengthen regulations governing travel agencies to prevent future instances of exploitation.
