Jharkhand Police Tighten Grip on Cyber Crime, Arrest Six in Jamtara

Jamtara : In a significant development against cybercrime, the Jharkhand Police have successfully arrested six cybercriminals from the Jamtara district, which has gained infamy as a hub for online fraud in India. This operation, led by Superintendent of Police Ehtesham Waqarib, reflects the police force’s commitment to curbing cybercrime and dismantling criminal networks operating from the region.

Addressing the media during a press conference, SP Waqarib revealed that the arrested individuals were part of a sophisticated gang that has been operating across the country. The gang’s activities primarily involved breaching sensitive data and misappropriating funds from government bank accounts, leading to cyber fraud amounting to over ₹10 crore. Their operations spanned multiple states, exploiting loopholes in the financial system to carry out their illegal activities.

The operation not only led to the arrests but also resulted in the seizure of several items used in their crimes. Among the confiscated assets were 14 mobile phones, 23 SIM cards, 10 ATM cards, a laptop, two four-wheelers, a camera, a drone camera, and ₹1,08,800 in cash. These items are expected to serve as crucial evidence in the ongoing investigation, providing insights into the gang’s modus operandi and the extent of their network.

The police are now working diligently to analyze the digital evidence recovered during the operation. Cybersecurity experts have been roped in to trace the digital trails left by the gang, aiming to identify potential accomplices and victims. SP Waqarib noted that the investigation is far from over, with efforts underway to uncover additional layers of this criminal enterprise and recover further stolen assets.

Jamtara’s notoriety as a cybercrime hub has often drawn national attention, with multiple cases of online fraud and phishing scams originating from the district. This latest operation underscores the efforts of the Jharkhand Police to crack down on these activities and bring the perpetrators to justice. By targeting organized gangs and leveraging advanced investigative techniques, the police hope to send a strong message to cybercriminals operating in the region.

SP Waqarib also emphasized the importance of public awareness in combating cybercrime. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and informed about the tactics employed by fraudsters to protect themselves from falling prey to such scams.
