New Delhi, August 22: Senior IPS officer Satish Golcha on Friday officially took charge as the Commissioner of Police, Delhi, at the Delhi Police Headquarters.
Soon after assuming office, Golcha chaired a meeting with senior officers to review the law-and-order situation in the national capital. In his first interaction with top officials, he directed the force to remain vigilant, prioritize crime prevention, and ensure seamless coordination across units to maintain peace and security in the city.

A 1992-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, Golcha has previously served as Special Commissioner (Law & Order) and held several key positions in the Delhi Police. He is widely known for his emphasis on technology-driven policing and community outreach initiatives.
The appointment came through a Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) order issued on Thursday, stating:
“With the approval of the Competent Authority, Satish Golcha, IPS (AGMUT:1992), presently posted as Director General (Prisons), Delhi, is hereby appointed to the post of the Commissioner of Police, Delhi with effect from the date of assumption of charge and until further orders.”
Prior to this, Golcha was serving as Director General (Prisons), Delhi, where he initially stepped in during a period of rising jail violence and gang-related unrest. His posting was later regularised.
Golcha replaces IPS officer SBK Singh, who had been holding additional charge of the post since August 1, following the retirement of Sanjay Arora on July 31. Singh continues to serve as Director General of Home Guards, Delhi.
Notably, Golcha has also served as Director General of Police (DGP), Arunachal Pradesh, from February 2022 to June 2023.
