Lt. Gen. Upendra Dwivedi has been appointed as the next Chief of Army Staff. He is set to assume office on the 30th of this month. The current Chief of Army Staff, General Manoj C. Pande, will demit office on June 30.
Lt. Gen. Upendra Dwivedi was born on 1 July 1964 and commissioned into the Indian Army’s Infantry (Jammu and Kashmir Rifles) on 15 December 1984. During his long and distinguished service spanning almost four decades, he has served in various capacities. He holds the rank of Lieutenant General and has held key positions including Director General Infantry and Chief of Staff (Northern Command) before being appointed as Vice Chief of Army Staff from 2022 to 2024. Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi is an alumnus of the Sainik School, Rewa, National Defence University and Army War College and holds two Masters degrees in Defence and Management Studies and one in Strategic Studies and Military Science. He is a recipient of the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and three GOC in C Award Cards.
