Across cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, young professionals are prioritising moments over material possessions. Social media has played a major role in shaping this shift, but experts say the trend goes beyond online influence. Many people now value emotional satisfaction, mental wellness, and meaningful experiences more than simply owning costly items.

Travel companies, event organisers, and wellness brands are seeing a noticeable rise in bookings from people in their 20s and early 30s. Budget travel groups, camping experiences, music festivals, stand-up comedy shows, and adventure activities are witnessing increasing demand, especially during weekends and holiday seasons.

Financial experts believe this change also reflects a new mindset after the pandemic years. Many youngsters realised the importance of spending time with loved ones, exploring new places, and enjoying life instead of constantly saving for status symbols. Experiences are now being viewed as investments in happiness and self-development.

Interestingly, the trend is not limited to luxury spending. Even affordable experiences like café hopping, local food walks, pottery classes, fitness events, and book-reading communities are becoming popular among urban youth. Digital creators and influencers are also encouraging audiences to “collect memories, not things,” making experience-driven lifestyles more aspirational.

Brands are quickly adapting to this consumer behaviour. Hospitality companies, airlines, and entertainment platforms are introducing customised packages focused on experiences rather than products. Many startups are also entering the market with unique concepts such as mystery travel, silent retreats, and creative workshops.

Lifestyle experts say this trend may continue to grow as younger generations seek balance, freedom, and emotional fulfilment in their lives. While material goods still hold value, experiences are increasingly becoming the preferred way for people to celebrate success, connect with others, and escape everyday stress.

In a fast-moving digital world, the new luxury for many young Indians is no longer what they own, but what they experience.
