Varanasi– A 30-year-old man was beaten to death in a shocking incident of mob violence in Varanasi after his car allegedly hit a woman in Ghamahapur village, triggering a brutal assault by her relatives, police said.

The deceased, identified as Manish Singh, was driving through the village under the Phoolpur police station area on Sunday night when his vehicle reportedly went out of control and struck Bindu Devi, 40, who was washing utensils by the roadside. The woman sustained injuries in the collision.

Enraged by the incident, members of the woman’s family allegedly attacked Singh and thrashed him severely, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed by his family to the trauma centre at Banaras Hindu University, where doctors declared him dead.

Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family, police registered a case against eight named individuals and several unidentified persons under relevant sections. Authorities confirmed that two accused — Harishchandra (61) and Yogendra Prajapati (25) — have been arrested so far.

Police said 11 people have been detained for questioning, and a joint team of the Crime Branch and local police is conducting raids to apprehend the remaining suspects.

Officials added that efforts are underway to ensure swift arrests as the investigation into the incident continues.
