Highlighting the need for reforms in the policing system, President Murmu said India’s police structure still carries the influence of the colonial era, where the primary role of the police was to control people rather than serve them. She stressed that this mindset must be completely transformed to build a stronger and more empowered nation under the vision of Viksit Bharat.

The President underlined that transparency, accountability, and public trust should form the foundation of modern policing. She said police stations and law enforcement agencies must become more citizen-friendly so that people can report grievances without fear or hesitation.

President Murmu said the role of police should go beyond maintaining law and order and evolve into that of a partner and guide for citizens. According to her, stronger cooperation between the police and the public would help create a safer and socially responsible society while deepening respect for the rule of law.

The President appreciated the professional conduct and public-friendly approach of the Sikkim Police, noting that the force has earned the trust and respect of the people through its dedicated service and commitment towards maintaining harmony in the state.
