Dehradun , June 10, 2025- In a powerful address at a national dialogue on ‘National Security and Terrorism’ held in Dehradun, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh asserted that Operation Sindoor stands as a testament to the transformation in India’s national security policy under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The event was attended by dignitaries including Uttarakhand Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami.
The Defence Minister described Operation Sindoor as the “biggest action in Indian history against terrorism”, executed in direct response to the brutal terror attack on civilians in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. He emphasized that this attack was an assault on India’s social fabric, to which the country responded with decisive military action, targeting terror camps and infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
“After the abrogation of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir has moved towards peace and prosperity. But Pakistan, unable to tolerate this progress, orchestrated the Pahalgam attack,” said Shri Singh. “Despite its efforts, Pakistan cannot derail our development drive. The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link is a shining example of the Centre’s resolve.”
Condemning terrorism as “the biggest curse on humanity and a threat to peaceful coexistence,” the Raksha Mantri called for united global efforts to uproot this menace. He urged international institutions and nations to impose strategic, diplomatic, and economic pressure on Pakistan to dismantle its terror infrastructure.
“Pakistan has earned the title of ‘Father of Global Terrorism’, while India is recognised globally as the ‘Mother of Democracy’,” he remarked. “Terrorists like Hafiz Saeed and Masood Azhar move freely in Pakistan, and its army officials attend their funerals. This is the same country appointed as Vice-Chair of the UN Counter-Terrorism Panel—this raises questions on global intent.”
He called upon the United Nations and the global community to treat terrorism as a priority issue, stating, “Only when we eradicate terrorism can we achieve lasting global peace and prosperity.”
Highlighting India’s shift towards self-reliance in defence under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission, Shri Rajnath Singh underlined that weapons used in Operation Sindoor were all Made-in-India.
“Earlier, India depended heavily on foreign defence imports. Today, our armed forces are equipped with indigenous missiles like Agni, Prithvi, and BrahMos, and advanced platforms like INS Vikrant,” he said.
He reported that India’s annual defence production has surged from ₹40,000 crore in 2014 to ₹1.30 lakh crore in 2025. Defence exports have increased from ₹686 crore in 2014 to ₹23,622 crore in FY 2024-25, reaching nearly 100 countries. The targets set for the current year include ₹1.75 lakh crore in defence production and ₹30,000 crore in exports.
Drawing attention to modern threats, the Raksha Mantri warned against misinformation and fake news, especially in times of national crises.
“During Operation Sindoor, Pakistan spread fake videos to demoralize our forces and citizens. We must all become social soldiers—alert citizens who stop the spread of lies and misinformation,” he said. He called for public vigilance and emphasized that cyber and information security are now crucial aspects of national defence.
Addressing the media, he said, “Today, being correct must take precedence over being first. Journalism is not just a profession, it is a national duty.” He urged media to resist the pressure to go viral at the cost of accuracy, emphasizing its critical role in strengthening democratic awareness and national unity.
