New Delhi, March 20, 2025 – Delhi Water Minister Shri Pravesh Verma has launched a new initiative under the Summer Action Plan, ensuring weekly review meetings with Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials to assess water supply, sewer system improvements, and enhance transparency in water distribution. This initiative aims to provide Delhi residents with a smooth and clean water supply during the summer months while curbing illegal water connections and plugging losses in the system.
In today’s meeting, a review was conducted on the progress made in the past week, and an action plan for the coming week was finalized. Officials were given clear directives to streamline water supply, prevent leakage, address sewer blockages, and enhance overall water distribution. Additionally, key measures were announced to ensure accountability and efficiency in water management.
Minister Shri Pravesh Verma highlighted the need to legalize water connections and make them more accessible for people. “Currently, the high water connection rates discourage people from opting for legal connections. We will revise the rates to encourage legal water connections. A deadline will be set for residents to obtain legal connections, after which penalties will be imposed on those who fail to comply,” he stated.
To ensure transparency and proper monitoring of water supply, the minister announced that a new tender is being floated for GPS-fitted tankers. “At present, there is no proper record of the trips made by tankers or where they are supplying water. I have directed that every tanker be fitted with GPS and a proper list of water supply points be maintained with documentation,” he said. The number of tanker trips will also be increased to 16 per day to strengthen water supply during the summer season.
Further, Shri Verma emphasized the need for monitoring the outflow of water from underground reservoirs (UGRs) to estimate revenue and losses. He stated that all these measures will help improve water supply, prevent wastage, and ensure better management of resources by the Delhi Jal Board.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi, our government prioritizes public welfare above all. Through weekly meetings under the Summer Action Plan, we are committed to ensuring an uninterrupted water supply for every citizen. These reforms will bring more transparency and accountability, ultimately benefiting the people of Delhi,” the minister added.
The government has assured that all necessary steps will be taken to improve water supply and sewer management, with visible progress expected in the coming weeks. A special monitoring system is also being developed to oversee water distribution and ensure quick resolution of any issues.
