PM Modi Receives Grand Welcome in Mauritius by PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam

New Delhi, Mar 11, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down in Port Louis early Tuesday morning and was warmly received at the airport by Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, his wife Veena Ramgoolam, and several senior government officials.

As PM Modi’s aircraft landed at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam and his wife Veena, elegantly dressed in a pink saree, stood ready to extend their greetings. The two leaders exchanged a heartfelt hug, following which PM Ramgoolam presented a garland to PM Modi as a token of welcome.

Several prominent figures were also present at the airport to receive the Indian Prime Minister, including Deputy Prime Minister Paul Berenger, Foreign Minister Ritesh Ramphul, opposition leader Joe Lesjongard, Speaker of the National Assembly Shirin Aumeeruddy-Cziffra, and Chief Justice Rehana Mungly-Gulbul—the first woman to hold the position of Chief Justice in Mauritius.

A ceremonial guard of honor was accorded to PM Modi upon his arrival, after which he was formally introduced to key members of the Mauritius government.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi expressed gratitude for the warm reception extended by his Mauritius counterpart.

“Landed in Mauritius. Thankful to my dear friend, PM Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, for the special honor of welcoming me at the airport.

“This visit provides a great opportunity to strengthen our cherished friendship and explore new areas of cooperation in various sectors.”

He further mentioned that during the day, he would be meeting President Dharam Gokhool and PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam, followed by an address at a community event in the evening.

The official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also shared a post on X:

“In a special gesture, warmly welcomed by PM @Ramgoolam_Dr at the airport.”

PM Modi is on a two-day visit to Mauritius, where he will be the Chief Guest at the Mauritius National Day celebrations. He is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.
