Over 1 Crore Devotees Take Holy Dip in Sangam on Magh Purnima by 8 AM

Prayagraj, Feb 12, 2025: More than one crore devotees, including saints, Kalpwasis, and pilgrims, took a sacred dip at the Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati—on the auspicious occasion of Magh Purnima during the Maha Kumbh on Wednesday.

According to official sources, the religious fervor was heightened as pilgrims were greeted with flower showers from the air, adding a divine touch to their spiritual experience.

Authorities reported that by 8 AM, over 1.02 crore devotees, including approximately 10 lakh Kalpwasis, had taken a holy dip in the Sangam. The cumulative number of devotees who have bathed in the sacred waters since the beginning of the festival has now surpassed 46.25 crore.

To ensure the smooth execution of this grand event, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, along with senior officials, has been closely monitoring the situation from Lucknow since the early hours of the day.

The UP government has left no stone unturned in making meticulous arrangements for the fourth major bathing festival of the Maha Kumbh—Magh Purnima. CM Yogi has directed officials to ensure that no devotee, Kalpvasi, or citizen faces any inconvenience within the Mela area or across Prayagraj.

In line with this vision, the local administration and police department have been working round the clock, focusing on traffic regulation, smooth vehicular movement, parking facilities, security, surveillance, and overall event management.

Prayagraj Police Commissioner Tarun Gaba reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing devotees with a hassle-free experience at the Maha Kumbh. He emphasized that traffic management strategies were planned well in advance and are being successfully implemented.

He stated, “Despite the increasing number of vehicles approaching the fair area, especially towards the weekend, the administration and police force have efficiently tackled challenges through relentless efforts. As a result, traffic flow remains smooth on all key routes leading to the Mela, preventing any major congestion within Prayagraj.”

To enhance crowd control and security, ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) and AI-powered cameras are being utilized to monitor traffic movements in real time. Additionally, data from toll plazas and field officers in neighboring districts is being analyzed to track incoming vehicle numbers, enabling better traffic regulation.

To ensure a seamless experience for devotees, authorities declared the Mela area a no-vehicle zone a day before the Magh Purnima bathing festival. Vehicular restrictions across Prayagraj were implemented from Tuesday evening. A dedicated traffic plan has also been put in place for Kalpwasis residing in the fair area, with all necessary information communicated to them in advance.
