Congress Unveils ₹8500 Monthly Scheme for Unemployed Youth

New Delhi January 12, 2025: In a bid to address unemployment among educated youth in Delhi, the Congress party announced the launch of the “Yuva Udaan Yojana” on Sunday. If voted into power in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, the scheme promises a monthly financial assistance of ₹8,500 for one year to the unemployed youth who are willing to demonstrate their skills in various industries, companies, factories, or organizations. This announcement was made by Congress leader and former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, who emphasized that the scheme aims to foster active participation in the workforce rather than simply providing financial aid without engagement.

Pilot clarified that the scheme is designed to provide financial support to youths who are actively seeking employment opportunities and can showcase their abilities to contribute in practical settings. He stated, “We will provide financial assistance to youths who can show their skills in a company, factory or organisation. They will get money through these companies. This is not a scheme under which one will get money while sitting at home.”

This move aims to not only provide financial assistance but also to help the youth improve their skill sets and gain valuable experience in their respective fields. According to Pilot, the scheme will encourage young people to pursue job opportunities that align with their training and education, ultimately fostering skill development and improving their employability. The Congress party is focused on creating a framework where the youth are absorbed in sectors related to their qualifications, giving them a chance to grow professionally and contribute to the economy.

The announcement of the “Yuva Udaan Yojana” comes in the wake of two other major promises made by Congress ahead of the Delhi elections. On January 6, the party introduced the “Pyari Didi Yojana,” which promises ₹2,500 per month to support women in the capital city. Additionally, on January 8, the Congress unveiled the “Jeevan Raksha Yojana,” a free health insurance initiative that would cover medical expenses up to ₹25 lakh for residents of Delhi.

The Congress party’s proposals come as the Delhi Assembly elections approach, with polling set to take place on February 5. The election results will be counted on February 8. The Congress has been out of power in Delhi since 2013, when it was ousted by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). In the 2015 and 2020 elections, AAP secured overwhelming victories, winning 67 and 62 seats respectively, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was a distant second. In both elections, Congress failed to win any seats, reflecting its diminished influence in the region.

With these new schemes, Congress aims to revive its position in Delhi politics, particularly among the youth, who have long been a crucial demographic in elections. By offering tangible benefits and practical support, the party seeks to strengthen its appeal in the lead-up to the 2025 polls and beyond, positioning itself as a viable alternative to the ruling AAP.
