“Uttarakhand BJP Leader Faces Sexual Assault Allegation, Expulsion”

1 September, 2024 In a shocking turn of events, Bhagwat Singh Bora, a block chief from the Almora district and a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl. The incident has sent shockwaves across the state, with the opposition and citizens demanding swift action against the accused.

According to the police, the incident occurred on August 24, but a complaint was not filed until August 30. The minor’s mother alleged that Bora molested her daughter while she was grazing goats in a nearby forest, luring her with chocolates. The police have registered a case against Bora under Section 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The police have taken swift action in the case, arresting Bora on Saturday night while he was on the run. “We arrested him while he was trying to escape,” said senior superintendent of police (SSP) Devendra Pincha. “We will produce him in the local court and seek his remand.” A medical examination of the girl has been conducted, and a woman sub-inspector has been assigned to investigate the case.

Following the arrest, the BJP has expelled Bora from the party, stating that they have a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women. State BJP president Mahendra Bhatt said, “We have taken strict action in similar cases that have come to light in the past. We will not tolerate such behavior from our party members.”

However, the opposition Uttarakhand Congress has criticized the BJP’s response, stating that expelling the accused from the party is not enough. State Congress chief spokesperson Garima Mehra Dasauni said, “The BJP needs to ensure a secure environment for all girls and women living in the state, rather than just trying to save their own party members. They need to take concrete steps to prevent such incidents in the future.”

The incident has sparked protests across the state, with the Congress demanding action against the accused and improved law and order in the state. The party has staged protests in various districts, demanding justice for the minor and stricter laws to prevent such incidents.

The case has also raised questions about the safety of women and children in the state. Citizens are demanding stricter laws and more effective implementation to prevent such incidents. The police have assured that they will take all necessary steps to ensure justice for the minor and prevent such incidents in the future. The case is ongoing, with the police seeking remand for Bora to investigate further.
