New Delhi, July 11 2024 : The Supreme Court has rescheduled the hearing on allegations of paper leaks and irregularities in the NEET-UG 2024 exam to July 18. Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, leading a three-judge bench, noted that some parties had not yet received affidavits from the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA), emphasizing the need for careful consideration before proceeding with arguments. The bench acknowledged the filing of affidavits by the Centre and NTA in compliance with the court’s July 8 directive.
Earlier this week, the Union Government submitted a fresh affidavit opposing calls for a re-test, citing a comprehensive report from IIT-Madras that refutes allegations of widespread malpractices or undue benefits to candidates at select centers. The affidavit highlighted no indication of “mass malpractice” or localized advantage affecting scores in NEET-UG 2024.
Meanwhile, the NTA informed the court that suspicions have been raised against 47 candidates regarding paper leaks and irregularities related to OMR sheets. Discussions are underway about potentially transitioning future exams from pen-and-paper to online formats.
The NEET-UG 2024 exam, held on May 5, has been marred by controversies over alleged paper leaks and the awarding of grace marks to some students. The CBI has thus far arrested eight individuals in connection with the case.
