Gujarat ATS Cracks Alleged Terror Plot, Two Held Over Radicalisation Network

Investigators claim accused used social media to recruit youth, spread extremist propaganda and allegedly discussed explosives, arms smuggling and targeted attacks.

Gujrat: Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad has arrested two men in connection with an alleged terror conspiracy involving online radicalisation, recruitment and suspected plans linked to anti-national activities.

Officials said the investigation began after intelligence inputs pointed to suspicious online activity tied to Irfan Kalekhan Pathan from Gujarat’s Patan district. Authorities claim a review of digital evidence revealed contact with extremist-linked individuals and the circulation of radical content through encrypted and social media platforms.

According to investigators, Pathan allegedly sought to build a wider network by identifying and influencing recruits across multiple states. The probe has also raised allegations involving discussions around weapons training, explosive materials and plans targeting specific individuals.

During the investigation, the role of a second accused, Murshid Zahid Akhtar Sheikh, also came under scrutiny. He was detained in Mumbai with assistance from Maharashtra Police before being formally arrested in the case.

Authorities have invoked provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and said both accused have been remanded to ATS custody for further questioning.

Investigators are now examining whether others may have been linked to the alleged network, while the broader probe remains underway.
