East Bengal FC Hold Mohun Bagan Super Giant to Draw, Enter AIFF Super Cup Semi-Finals on Goal Difference

A resilient East Bengal side secure a last-four berth in Goa after holding arch-rivals Mohun Bagan to a goalless draw in the AIFF Super Cup 2025-26

Goa, November 1, 2025 — East Bengal FC put on a disciplined and determined display to hold Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG) to a goalless draw, booking their place in the semi-finals of the AIFF Super Cup 2025-26 on goal difference. Both teams ended with five points, but East Bengal’s superior goal difference (+4 compared to +2) saw them advance to the next round.

Oscar Bruzon’s Red and Gold Brigade entered the match knowing that a draw would suffice, while Mohun Bagan required all three points to qualify. East Bengal began the game with attacking intent, with Miguel Figueira and Naorem Mahesh Singh combining well to create early chances. In the 22nd minute, Mohamad Rakip’s cross narrowly missed Hamid Ahadad, while Bipin Singh’s header moments later struck the post, keeping the scores level.

Mohun Bagan grew into the contest after the half-hour mark, with Apuia testing East Bengal goalkeeper Prabhsukhan Singh Gill just before halftime. Despite late first-half pressure, East Bengal’s backline held firm to maintain the deadlock.

The Mariners started the second half with renewed urgency, with Liston Colaco narrowly missing the target and midfielders Apuia and Anirudh Thapa driving forward. Substitutions by coach Jose Molina brought fresh energy, with Jason Cummings and later Robinho and Petratos joining the attack. However, East Bengal’s defensive discipline, led by Anwar Ali’s crucial last-minute block, kept MBSG at bay.

The final minutes saw East Bengal confidently control possession, frustrating their rivals and sealing progression to the semi-finals.

The result extends East Bengal’s fine run in the competition and marks another high point in the club’s revival under Bruzon. Meanwhile, Mohun Bagan’s campaign ends in disappointment as they exit despite valiant efforts.

The Red and Gold Brigade will now turn their focus to the semi-final, where they aim to continue their march toward the AIFF Super Cup title.
