Dr. Nitu Kumari Navgeet and Rakesh Kumar Appointed as SVEEP Icons of Patna District

Folk Singer and Social Worker Chosen to Inspire Electoral Participation

Patna, October 10, 2025: On the recommendation of the District Administration, Patna, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Bihar, has designated noted folk singer Dr. Nitu Kumari Navgeet and social worker Rakesh Kumar as SVEEP Icons for the upcoming Bihar Legislative Assembly Elections 2025.

Dr. Nitu Kumari Navgeet has been appointed as the SVEEP Icon, while Rakesh Kumar has been named the PWD Icon to promote voter awareness, especially among persons with disabilities.

A renowned folk singer of Bihar, Dr. Nitu Kumari Navgeet has represented the state’s rich cultural heritage on several national and international platforms, including Mauritius, Fiji, and Nepal. She has earlier served as the Brand Ambassador for Patna Municipal Corporation’s Swachhata Awareness Campaign, connecting citizens with the Swachh Bharat Mission. During the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, she successfully motivated voters across schools, colleges, and public spaces as the SVEEP Icon of Patna.

Dr. Navgeet’s contributions have earned her multiple accolades, including the Times Women Extraordinaire, Women Leadership Award 2023, Dainik Bhaskar’s Bihar Gaurav Samman, Prabhat Khabar’s Aparajita Samman, Dainik Jagran INext Legend of Bihar Award 2024, and Patna Women’s College Sahas Samman 2024.

Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Kurji Kothia, Digha, has been appointed as the PWD SVEEP Icon for his dedicated work towards the empowerment of persons with disabilities. Despite his own physical challenges, he has made remarkable contributions in education, social service, and legal awareness and has been honored by several organizations for his selfless service to the community.

Speaking on the initiative, District Election Officer-cum-District Magistrate, Patna, Dr. Tyagarajan S.M., said that an intensive voter awareness campaign is being carried out under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme. Nearly 20 departments are working in coordination to motivate citizens to vote, with a target of achieving around 66% voter turnout in the upcoming elections.

He added that the participation of SVEEP Icons like Dr. Navgeet and Rakesh Kumar will significantly enhance the campaign’s reach and impact, urging every citizen to participate in the electoral process and inspire others to exercise their right to vote for a stronger democracy.
