New Delhi, November 10, 2025: A massive explosion occurred near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening, sending shockwaves across the national capital. The blast, believed to have originated from a parked car, resulted in a fierce fire that quickly spread to multiple nearby vehicles.
According to officials from the Delhi Fire Department, a distress call was received around 6:45 p.m. reporting an explosion near the Red Fort area. Seven fire tenders were immediately rushed to the scene to douse the flames and rescue the injured.
“We received a call about a car blast near Gate No. 1 of Lal Qila Metro Station. Upon reaching the spot, we found several vehicles engulfed in flames. The situation is now under control,” said a senior Fire Department officer.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as people ran for cover following the deafening explosion. “The blast was so powerful that the ground shook for a few seconds. I saw cars catching fire one after another,” said a shopkeeper from the Chandni Chowk area.
Preliminary reports indicate that at least eight people have died and several others have been injured in the incident. The victims have been shifted to nearby hospitals, where emergency wards have been placed on alert.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the explosion. Initial suspicion points to a CNG cylinder blast, but officials are also examining the possibility of explosive materials being present in the vehicle. A forensic team and members of the Delhi Police Special Cell are on site collecting evidence.
“We are investigating all possible angles. Nothing can be ruled out at this stage,” said a Delhi Police spokesperson.
The area surrounding Red Fort and Chandni Chowk has been cordoned off, and traffic has been diverted to ensure safety and facilitate rescue operations. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has temporarily restricted entry and exit at the Red Fort Metro Station.
Following the blast, a high alert has been issued across Delhi, and security has been intensified at key landmarks, transport hubs, and public places. Senior police officials and bomb disposal units are conducting thorough checks in the vicinity.
As investigations continue, authorities have urged citizens to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information on social media.
