Delhi Police step up night patrols ahead of festive season to ensure public safety

The Impressive TimesNew Delhi – The Delhi Police conducted a citywide ‘General Gasht’, an intensified night patrolling operation across all 15 districts of the national capital in preparation for the upcoming festive season, officials said on Sunday.
Senior officers joined regular police personnel during the exercise, which aimed to ensure law and order, monitor traffic violations, and enhance public safety. The operation was carried out during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha visited multiple picket points and barricaded areas to review ongoing operations and interact with officers on duty.
He reportedly inspected key locations, including ITO and Shakarpur, before heading to Ghazipur border, where he reviewed ground-level security arrangements with deployed personnel. He later continued his inspections at Hazrat Nizamuddin, officials added.
Abhishek Dhania, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), stated that the primary objectives of the General Gasht were to enhance citywide safety, monitor dark and vulnerable areas, curb traffic violations, and identify known criminals active in various localities.
“This initiative boosts police visibility and reassures residents about their safety during the festive season,” DCP Dhania said.
During the overnight operation, officers conducted vehicle checks at several locations, including Punjabi Bagh, Rohtak Road, and Kotla Mubarakpur, with temporary barricades set up at key junctions for enhanced security.
Officials said the exercise involved close coordination between the local police and traffic police to maintain smooth traffic flow while conducting enforcement checks.
“The focus is on staying alert and maintaining high visibility across all areas to prevent crimes and respond promptly to any incidents,” a senior officer remarked. “Our nighttime patrols send a clear message that public safety is our top priority.”
DCP (North) Raja Banthia extended his greetings to citizens for a safe and joyous festive season and urged them to promptly report any suspicious activity.
“Resident cooperation is crucial for maintaining peace. While our teams remain on high alert, timely information from the public plays a vital role,” DCP Banthia emphasized.
Security arrangements were also reviewed at key locations such as the Ghazipur border and Peeragarhi, with senior officers supervising personnel deployment and picket operations.
According to officials, teams carried out motorcycle patrols, conducted vehicle inspections, and questioned individuals in areas deemed vulnerable.
The Delhi Police urged citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to assist the authorities in maintaining law and order.
