The Impressive TimesNew Delhi, August 5, 2026: The government has said that no grievances or formal representations related to the editorial autonomy, appointments or functioning of public broadcasters were received from journalists, employees or media organisations during the last one year.
However, seven complaints related to appointments were received from applicants, the government informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
The information was shared by Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. L. Murugan, in a written reply to questions raised by MPs Adv. Priya Saroj and Pushpendra Saroj.
The government said editorial content of public broadcasters is reviewed regularly by the Editor-in-Chief and senior editorial teams. Corrective measures and necessary guidance are provided whenever required to maintain the quality, accuracy and balance of news and ensure compliance with Prasar Bharati’s editorial policies and the Programme Code.
Viewer feedback and complaints concerning editorial content are also forwarded to the concerned editorial teams for necessary action under the established procedures.
The government further stated that the Broadcasting Infrastructure and Network Development (BIND) scheme, aimed at modernising and upgrading Prasar Bharati’s broadcasting infrastructure, was approved as a Central Sector Scheme for 2021-26. The scheme has subsequently been extended up to March 31, 2027.
Details regarding budgetary allocations, expenditure and revenue generated under the scheme are available on the Prasar Bharati website.
According to the government, Akashvani reaches around 98 per cent of India’s population and approximately 90 per cent of the country’s geographical area. Meanwhile, DD Free Dish is available across the country without any subscription fee.
Prasar Bharati also reviews viewership figures, audience feedback and social media analytics as part of its ongoing efforts to improve the quality, content and presentation of its news services.
