Drug-free youth key to building a developed India, says Bihar Minister Shravan Kumar

Bihar Sharif (Nalanda): A district-level programme to launch PM Narendra Modi’s nationwide ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’ (Drug-Free Youth for Developed India Pledge Campaign) was held at Nalanda College on Sunday. Addressing the gathering, Bihar Rural Development and Information & Public Relations Minister Shravan Kumar said drug-free youth are the foundation of a developed India.

The event featured a live telecast of the PM’s address and was inaugurated with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp and floral tributes to Swami Vivekananda by Minister Shravan Kumar, Nalanda MP Kaushalendra Kumar, Dy Development Commissioner Sara Ashraf, Additional DM (Disaster Management) Ranjan Kumar Choudhary, District Youth Officer Diksha Mishra and Nalanda College Principal Dr Sunita Sinha.

In his virtual address, PM Modi called the campaign a national commitment towards a developed India and urged youth to stay away from drugs. He said healthy, drug-free youth are key to the nation’s progress and noted that over one crore students, MY Bharat volunteers and NSS members have joined the campaign nationwide.

Addressing the gathering, Shravan Kumar urged youth to stay away from drugs and all forms of addiction, calling substance abuse harmful to families and society. Referring to Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals, he praised Bihar’s prohibition policy as a landmark social reform, credited former CM Nitish Kumar for its implementation, and said the liquor ban had improved household welfare, with higher spending on milk, sweets and clothing.

Nalanda College Principal Dr Sunita Sinha described youth as the nation’s greatest strength and said PM Modi’s call for a drug-free India would inspire them to contribute to nation-building.

During the programme, Shravan Kumar administered an anti-drug pledge to students and participants, who pledged to stay away from substance abuse and spread awareness. The event was attended by students, teachers, public representatives, Scouts and Guides, NSS and NCC cadets, government officials and local residents.
