New Delhi, July 15, 2026: India UK CETA received strong support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday as he said the landmark trade agreement and the Social Security Agreement will strengthen economic ties and create new opportunities for farmers, MSMEs, businesses and skilled professionals in both countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday described the implementation of the IndiaUnited Kingdom Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the Agreement on Social Security as a major milestone in bilateral relations, saying the two pacts will deepen economic cooperation and create new opportunities for people in both countries.

Sharing an article by Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, the Prime Minister said the agreements reflect the shared vision of India and the UK to build a stronger partnership based on trade, technology, innovation and investment.

Modi said the CETA will open greater access to the UK market for Indian farmers, entrepreneurs and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), while also promoting cooperation in technology, professional services and innovation. He added that the agreement would improve mobility for skilled Indian professionals and help Indian businesses become more competitive globally.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the significance of the Social Security Agreement, stating that it will provide important benefits to Indian professionals working temporarily in the United Kingdom by offering greater social security support.

Calling the agreements a reflection of the growing trust between the two democracies, Modi said India and the United Kingdom will continue to work together to achieve shared prosperity and strengthen their long-term strategic partnership.

The Prime Minister shared his views through a post on X, emphasising that the agreements mark a new chapter in India-UK economic relations and reinforce both nations’ commitment to expanding collaboration across key sectors.
