Hardoi– Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated the 594-km-long Ganga Expressway, a major infrastructure project connecting Meerut to Prayagraj. The expressway is among the longest high-speed road corridors in the country and is expected to significantly improve travel and logistics across the state.
Developed as a six-lane expressway with scope for expansion to eight lanes, the corridor is designed for speeds of up to 120 kmph. Officials said the project will reduce travel time, enhance road safety, and streamline the movement of goods and passengers.
The expressway passes through 12 key districts, strengthening connectivity between western and eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh. It is also expected to improve access to rural areas, benefiting farmers, traders, and industries.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described the project as a transformative step for the state, saying it would accelerate development and create new opportunities for youth and businesses.
A standout feature of the project is a 3.2-kilometre airstrip near Shahjahanpur, designed to facilitate emergency landings by the Indian Air Force. The expressway is also equipped with advanced safety infrastructure, including an Intelligent Traffic Management System, CCTV monitoring, emergency call boxes, and dedicated patrol units.
Built under a public-private partnership model, the corridor will also host industrial and logistics hubs along its route. These facilities are expected to include warehouses, cold storage units, and food processing centres, aimed at boosting agriculture and attracting investment.
Additionally, the expressway will connect with other major corridors such as the Purvanchal, Agra-Lucknow, Bundelkhand, and Gorakhpur Link expressways, creating a vast and integrated road network across the state.
Officials believe the project will play a key role in strengthening infrastructure, improving supply chains, and supporting Uttar Pradesh’s long-term economic growth ambitions.
