New Delhi- A high-speed motorcycle crash on the Mukundpur flyover in north Delhi claimed the lives of two 20-year-old men late Sunday night, with the force of the collision splitting the victims across two levels of the roadway.
Police said the incident occurred between 9 pm and 10 pm on the loop road connecting Ring Road towards Wazirabad, near Majlis Park Metro Station. The duo were returning from a social gathering when their motorcycle — a modified Yamaha R15 — slammed into the flyover wall.
The impact was severe enough to hurl the rider along with the bike off the flyover into a drain below, while the pillion rider was thrown onto the road surface above. Passersby alerted authorities, and locals rushed to assist before emergency teams arrived.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), Hareshwar Swami, said officers found the damaged motorcycle near the drain upon reaching the scene. The pillion rider had already been taken to hospital by locals, while the rider’s body was retrieved from the drain after an extensive search operation lasting about an hour.
Both victims were declared dead at Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital, where they had been taken for treatment.
Preliminary findings suggest the motorcycle was being driven at high speed. A medico-legal report has indicated that both individuals had consumed alcohol prior to the crash, though police said further verification is underway.
The deceased were residents of Burari and Bawana. Investigators noted that the rider owned the motorcycle, while the pillion was employed as a factory worker.
A case has been registered under sections related to rash driving and causing death by negligence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police officials added that no eyewitnesses have come forward so far and there is no indication of foul play.
Family members of the rider revealed that he had recently lost his job and had previously been involved in a similar accident about a year ago. Meanwhile, friends of the pillion expressed shock, stating they were unaware of any alcohol consumption and were still trying to come to terms with the loss.
